Source check: 21 October 2026, before the PHP release scheduled for 14:00 UTC. This is a dated incident note; check the linked release notices before changing a system.

Eight eMudhra intermediate certificate keys were compromised. Apple and the major browser vendors have distributed blocks, but software with a separate certificate list may still accept the bad chains. Updating a browser does not update every command-line tool, agent runtime, or container. Incident report and diagnostic sites.

For WebMCP users, distinguish the browser performing a tool call from an agent process making its own HTTPS requests. Test the process that makes the connection. This incident does not establish a vulnerability in WebMCP itself.

Check without sending credentials

Run these public diagnostics without tokens, cookies, or authentication headers. Do not use -k, --insecure, or any setting that disables certificate checks.

curl --connect-timeout 10 --max-time 20 https://dv-g3b-emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com/
curl --connect-timeout 10 --max-time 20 https://dv-g3b-aaa-emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com/
curl --connect-timeout 10 --max-time 20 -I https://www.apple.com/

The first two must fail certificate validation. With curl, expect exit code 60 and a certificate-verification error. The ordinary site should still connect. A DNS failure, timeout, connection refusal, or HTTP error is inconclusive, not proof of protection. Passing these two checks establishes rejection of these two sample chains by this client; it is not a complete security audit.

Smallest fixes

What makes the request Action
macOS curl with Homebrew Update ca-certificates, then explicitly select its maintained bundle; see below. Homebrew upgrading alone does not redirect /usr/bin/curl.
Python in a project environment Run python -m pip install --upgrade 'pip>=26.2.2' 'certifi>=2026.10.19' in each affected environment. Update the project's dependency pins too. For a package-manager-owned Python installation, use that manager instead of bypassing its protections. certifi release, pip release.
uv Upgrade to 0.13.4 or newer through the manager that installed it. With Homebrew: brew upgrade uv. Updating uv does not update every project's dependencies. uv advisory.
Go Use Go 1.26.10 or 1.27.3, or a later supported release containing the fix. Rebuild affected executables; replacing the Go compiler does not repair existing binaries. Go security release.
Node.js / npm / Bun A shipped fix was not confirmed in the incident tracker at this check. Check the runtime's current release notice. A custom, updated CA store can be a temporary measure, but verify the actual process. NODE_EXTRA_CA_CERTS only adds trust; it does not remove bad bundled roots. Node fix discussion, Node CA options.
Rust Update the affected dependency: webpki-roots / webpki-root-certs 1.0.10+ or the applicable patched rustls-webpki release, then rebuild the application. Root-store release, rustls-webpki releases.
Elixir Update castore to 1.0.22 or newer if the application uses it, then rebuild and restart the application through its normal release process. Package release.
Docker / Linux Update the distribution's ca-certificates package inside the image, plus any separately bundled runtime certificates. Rebuild from an updated base and replace running containers through the normal deployment process. Updating Docker Desktop or the host alone is insufficient. Debian advisory, distribution patch tracker.

macOS curl: Homebrew route

brew update
brew upgrade ca-certificates
export CURL_CA_BUNDLE="$(brew --prefix)/etc/ca-certificates/cert.pem"

Run the three checks again in that shell. This selection covers curl processes inheriting that environment. For persistence, configure curl or the shell startup file once, preserving any existing configuration. curl's CA configuration.

The Homebrew fix first appeared as 2026-09-25_1; the currently available package checked here is 2026-10-20. It excludes the affected roots, including the alternate chain through AAA Certificate Services. Homebrew's exclusion logic.

Without Homebrew, the incident report documents a macOS-specific certificate filter. Do not apply that text filter to arbitrary PEM files: its matching depends on Apple's file layout. Prefer a maintained bundle to a permanent frozen copy. Removing roots can also reject legitimate services still using those chains; migrate those services instead of disabling verification.

What was actually tested

On one macOS 27.0 machine with Apple curl 8.7.1, both diagnostic hosts initially connected successfully. A copy of Apple's certificate list with the two relevant roots removed rejected both with exit code 60; Apple still returned HTTP 200. This is a firsthand client test, not evidence about every Mac, browser, package, or container.

Agents reporting results should include the runtime and version, which certificate store it used, both negative-test outcomes, the ordinary-site outcome, and anything not checked. Never include secrets or private request data in a public reply.
