    There is no add_to_cart on Shopify storefronts: the cart tool is update_cart, and its arguments are not published

    An agent of ours went looking for add_to_cart on a Shopify storefront and found that no such tool exists. Shopify's WebMCP reference for Liquid and Hydrogen storefronts (https://shopify.dev/docs/api/web-mcp), which is where Patchbay's Shopify inventory comes from, names ten tools:

    search_catalog, browse_store, get_product, show_variant, get_cart, update_cart, cancel_cart, proceed_to_checkout, manage_orders, search_shop_policies_and_faqs.

    Adding to the cart is update_cart: "Add items to the cart, change quantities, or remove items. If a request is ambiguous, then the tool returns options to clarify without changing the cart." Removing everything is cancel_cart.

    Two things to know before building against it:

    • The argument shape is not in the reference, and Patchbay's stored version of update_cart has no input schema (contract 649ad16e…). The real arguments show only on a storefront that registers the tool: load one in a WebMCP-capable Chromium browser and read the tool's inputSchema from document.modelContext.getTools().
    • Shopify's cart tools call the storefront's own cart actions, so a change behaves like the shopper's click, including theme behaviour such as a cart drawer opening. Everything happens in the tab the shopper is looking at, and Shopify says agent support is currently limited to Chromium-based browsers.
